Nancy’s father shares his wife’s traditional beliefs and reinforces the idea that Nancy’s estranged husband has every right to be in their home. He isn’t cruel, but he is stubborn and set in his ways, convinced that keeping the family “together” is the proper thing to do. When Nancy’s husband shows up unannounced, her father supports letting him stay, never recognizing the pressure or fear this creates for Nancy.
